Overview
Among the rarest of the Hebrew cantillation marks is merkha kefula, encoded at U+05A6, whose name means doubled merkha and whose glyph accordingly repeats the curved stroke of the ordinary merkha. It occurs only a handful of times in the entire Hebrew Bible, which makes its presence a recognised textual landmark for scholars. Unicode classifies it Mn (mark, nonspacing): it carries no advance width and attaches beneath the consonant it accompanies. Like the rest of the te'amim it conveys musical and syntactic information simultaneously rather than functioning as punctuation.
